Arboriculture

Our consultancy service is comprehensive. In addition to providing basic homebuyer reports, we can assess the condition of trees on site and manage further services including obtaining permission to work on protected trees, advising of site development and presenting a property for sale.

Separately, we  provide a feasibility assessment relating to the development potential of sites containing trees, survey the trees for retention suitability, negotiate with the Local Planning Authority as required and attend committees and public meetings if needed.

We can inspect trees for their condition, whether individual specimens in domestic properties or within estates. This includes surveying for safety and arranging tree work, whether pruning or felling. Advice can be provided relating to tree doctor issues and we specialise with managing veteran trees.

Home Buyers Tree (& Condition) Reports

Trees can damage a property and cause costly problems; they may need pruning and can deter potential buyers. They can become an issue delaying completion and can cost time and money.

The Home Buyer Tree Report will highlight existing and potential problems in advance, including subsidence, structural damage and safety issues. You can then decide whether to undertake work prior to sale or factor it into negotiations, saving time and money. Realistic costing for the work can be provided. More than simply ticking boxes, this is a detailed report by a professional and experienced arborist.

Community Support

Some planning applications and regeneration projects can cause concern for the local community. Residents can feel helpless in seeking to influence the process. An impartial assessment will identify tile merits of the case and advise on aspects for objection and representation. When required, the case can be presented at public meetings and committees, and in discussions with officials. When private companies are involved, negotiations to influence can be led. This ensures that the community is professionally represented and able to be effective in influence.

Veteran Tree Management

Veteran trees are increasingly recognised as being special. They often have historic connections and provide important ecological features. They are vulnerable to changes in their surroundings and to bad management. They often require very specific work to be maintained, including Safety. Protected species of flora and fauna are frequently found within the structure of veteran trees, with associated need for care within a framework of legal protection.

A careful assessment of condition and management needs can be provided with supervision of sensitive work.

Tree Preservation Orders: Management & Advise

Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) are used by Local Authorities to protect trees of merit from developments, fellings and inappropriate pruning. However, living with them can present challenges.
New TPOs are not always appropriate. Objections can be prepared and submitted where problems are identified.
Applications to fell or prune can be submitted, with accompanying statements of support. An independent assessment will inform whether work is needed, and careful phrasing can help gain approval.

Appeals can be managed with supporting statements, response to the Council's comments, and representation at the site inspection.

Litigation Advice

Trees can become legal problems. An alleged breach of TPO; damage to neighbour’s property; damage from a fallen tree or branch – liabilities can be substantial.

Top

An impartial assessment can establish the extent of the liability with professional advice on responding. This can help persuade others to withdraw their case or direct your response in a sensitive manner, minimising time and liabilities. A diplomatic response can achieve much.

Tree Doctor Advice

Many situations can benefit from experienced, professional advice. From identifying diseases and other problems to defending a subsidence claim, and from identifying an unknown tree to selecting a replacement specimen.

Top

Tree Management

Individual trees can be subject to pressure for pruning and general management whether from neighbours or the local community. A detailed report can be provided, considering the potential of pruning on the welfare of the tree and the setting. The case for removal can be evaluated where identified.

Tree Safety Inspections & Surveys

Recent high-profile legal cases have emphasised the responsibility of landowners to safely maintain trees on their land. A defendable approach of Inspections is needed, this includes knowing what trees are where, and if their condition required attention.

Trees can be accurately plotted on site and zoned according to risk. An impartial assessment of the safety of each tree, with priorities for work, will ensure a relevant and proportionate response. Professional tree work can then be arranged as required and you can be assured that your legal responsibilities are met.

Development Feasibility Assessment

Whether a brown field, new build, or domestic extension, trees within and around a site can influence development potential.  An initial site visit can ascertain if development is realistic. Constraints and problems are identified and possible solutions considered. You can then decide whether to proceed and how to value the project.

This means that time and resources are not spent on an unrealistic proposal. It allows for realistic pricing of land purchase. It also can allow for the value of difficult sites to be realised. Advice can be given to overcome and resolve objections, easing the passage to approval.

Trees & Planning Surveys (to BS 5837: 2005)

A survey of the trees on potential development sites is often required by the Local Planning Authority. The survey (to BS 5837: 2005) identifies trees to be retained and any work needed to them; it will identify how a development can be planned around recommended tree retention.

Submitting an accurate and professional report can speed the process to planning approval. Design and layout can be arranged to optimise the development. Considered input at the earliest stage can ensure the support of planning officers. In the event of an appeal, the arboricultural and landscape design case will be presented professionally and favourably.

Woodland Management

From enjoying established woodland to planting new areas to offset carbon, the amenity benefits of trees are evident. Although woodland is generally low maintenance, it still needs to be managed to thrive.
Management plans can be produced for new and existing sites, identifying and prioritising work. Site suitability and planting schedules can be provided with contractor selection and supervision. Where appropriate, grant applications can be made and Forestry Felling Licences obtained.

You gain a resource you can enjoy  now and for future generations.
